She completed one year of nursing at Ogdensburg's Hepburn Hospital School of Nursing before returning home to care for her mother. In 1943 she graduated from the Watertown School of Commerce, working then in Massena's Alcoa Mechanical and Chemical Engineering Departments through 1946. Dorothy enjoyed painting and had the privilege to study watercolor under Robert Plumb. She also later worked with acrylics. Her family proudly enjoyed her work displayed in local art shows. She was a longtime Norwood Village Library Trustee and enjoyed Bridge. At home Dorothy enjoyed crocheting, and crafts. Cats were beloved by Dorothy as was entertaining family and friends every summer at her Higley Flow home. Wintertime was filled with the snowmobiling and warm fireside nights that she and Baker so enjoyed. Family was the axis around which Dorothy's life turned. Growing up in an extended Irish family of ten aunts and uncles, she became known for her generosity and compassion. Of her many accomplishments, she was proudest of the family she built and nurtured. The Girl and Boy Scouts, 4H, Junior Catholic Daughters, Horse Shows, and innumerable school activities all benefitted from her supportive presence. Her peaceful, patient demeanor, her endless curiosity, and her gracious acceptance of cultural changes that she witnessed through her long life will always be treasured by those whose lives she welcomed and shaped. In attitude and action, Dorothy embodied the Beatitude "Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called the children of God." Dorothy was a communicant of St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Norwood, St. Patrick's in Colton, St. Patrick's in Brasher Falls, and most recently St. Mary's in Canton.
