North Lawrence – Kyle S. Simpson, 50, passed away tragically at his home in Jacksonville, FL on February 6, 2017. Kyle was born on March 12, 1966 in Massena, son of Winfred E. and Shirley R. (Cook) Simpson, Sr. He graduated from St. Lawrence Central in 1984 and enlisted in the U. S. Army. He took position in the Military Police and worked up the ranks to Sergeant First Class. Kyle was dedicated to his country and the security of its servicemen. He was stationed in Germany where he directed and trained Physical Security Inspectors, maintained oversight of regional law enforcement investigations, was a senior advisor for the Army’s Department of Emergency Services (USAG Hessen), and was a member of the Commanding Generals Personal Security Detail. He received many decorations during his Army career; Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Joint Service Achievement Medal, Army Achievement Medal with 5 Oak Leaf Clusters, and 8 Good Conduct Medals. He retired from the Army after 24 years of service on July 31, 2008. Never one to be idle, he took a job as Company Intelligence Support Team Instructor/Training Specialist for the Stanley Company, then went back to Germany where he was a Physical Security Specialist for the U. S. Army Garrison in Stuttgart. He moved to Jacksonville, FL, where he continued contracting as a Physical Security Inspector for the government, inspecting armories and post offices. One of his favorite security details was protecting the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders. Kyle was that special person who could bring out the best in people. He was always joking, laughing and had an unforgettable smile. If Kyle was there, everyone around was happy. His love for his country was exemplary and he always sang along with his favorite song, “Proud to be an American.” A special day for Kyle was March 11, 2015, as he married the love of his life, Maria Patricia Reyes Enad in Las Vegas. Pat or Putch, as Kyle called her, brought Kyle the love and joy of being both a husband and a Dad. Kyle is survived by his wife, Pat, one son, Marco Schmied and his wife, Jennifer of Rodenbach, Hessen, Germany, two grandchildren, his mother, Shirley Simpson of North Lawrence, his brothers and sisters, Winfred Simpson, Jr. of St. Regis Falls, Joy Sebring of Massena, Stephen Simpson of Massena, Jody and Ann Simpson of North Lawrence, Cissy and Todd Hayes Louisville, and his best friend, Jerry Sandefur of Stuttgart, Nufringen, Germany, many nieces and nephews. A Remembrance Gathering and Celebration of Life for Kyle will be held Saturday starting at 11 am until 4 pm at the American Legion Post #514 in Winthrop.
