Norman C Johnson

North Lawrence- Mr. Norman C. Johnson, 82, passed away Wednesday March 22, 2017 at the Canton-Potsdam Hospital with his family by his side. Arrangements have been entrusted to Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop. Norman was born in Mercerville, NJ on February 24, 1935 to the late Samuel and Mary Etta (Farver) Johnson. He graduated from Allentown High School in NJ. On November 2, 1957 he married Gloria Golden in Hamilton Square, NJ. He proudly served his country in the US ARMY, earning an honorable discharge in 1960. For many dedicated years Norman worked as an operating engineer for his Local #825 based out of Newark, NJ, retiring in 1996. He was a member of the Plumsted Presbyterian Church in New Egypt, NJ; and after relocating to North Lawrence in 1998; Norman and Gloria attended and became very active within the Lawrenceville Baptist Church. Always a hard worker, Norman took pleasure in mowing his lawn, landscaping and building things. It was very common to find him driving on his treasured Kubota Tractor. In earlier years he enjoyed hunting and fishing. He looked forward to family gatherings and cherished his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Norman is survived by his wife of 59 years, Gloria; a sister, Mary Ivins of Port Richie, FL; a daughter, Beth Ann Crump of North Lawrence, son, Scott Johnson and his companion Adonna Smith of North Lawrence, and son and daughter-in-law, Lee and Kim Johnson of New Egypt, NJ.; 6 grandchildren: Jennifer (Jason) Brutte, Andrew (Maranda) Crump, Daniel (Sarah) Crump, Amy Johnson, Norman C. Johnson II, and MyLee Johnson; 6 great-grandchildren: Jasmine, Andrew Jr., Chloe, Leah, Paige, and Nathan; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by a son-in-law, Gary Crump, a granddaughter, Jessica Crump, and his siblings: Sam Johnson, Margaret “Peg” McNellis, Mildred Nowicki, and Robert “Bob” Johnson. A Memorial Service and Celebration of Life will be held Friday March 31st at 11:00am at the Lawrenceville Baptist Church in North Lawrence with a luncheon to follow in the fellowship hall. Burial will take place at Fairview Cemetery in Brasher Falls in the spring. Flowers are gratefully declined.
