Lawrenceville - Alfred P. Pickering, 80, passed away Thursday, April 28, 2017 at the Alice Center in Malone.  Arrangements are entrusted to the Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop. Alfred was born on April 1, 1937 in Bangor, son of the late Alfred and Gladys Pickering.  He married Irene C. "Pat" Steenberg on March 30, 1991. For many years, Alfred was a mechanic,operating a garage in Chateaugay and went on to work in Hogansburg.  He became a salesman for the Vernon Company and traveled the North Country.  He was a member of the Lawrenceville Fire Department and Treasurer for North Country Fiddlers Association.  In his spare time he enjoyed carpentry and gardening. Alfred is survived by his wife, Pat, children, Robert and Judie Villnave of Auburn, Mary Lynn and Harvey Smith of Colton and Eric Pickering, one sister, Lorraine Dow of Plattsburgh, grandson, Matthew and Sara Villnave of Lewiston, three great grandchildren, Bianca, Mariska and Fionna, nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by his siblings, Pearl, Thelma Martin, William and Wesley. Visitation will be held Monday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm at the Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop.  Al's funeral service will be held Tuesday, with visitation from 9 until the service at 10am  at the funeral home.  Burial will be in St. Lawrence Cemetery in North Lawrence. Memorials in Alfred's name can be made to the Lawrenceville Fire Dept. or Tri Town Rescue Squad. Memories and condolences can be shared at www.hammillfh.com.
