Dickinson Center – William P. Woodward, 70, passed away Monday, August 7, 2017 at UVMC in Burlington, VT. Arrangements are entrusted to the Hammill Funeral Home in St. Regis Falls.
William was born on June 7, 1947 in Malone, son of the late Verness and Pauline (Harwood) Woodward. He earned his Bachelor's Degree in Education from SUNY at Buffalo and his Master's from SUNY at Potsdam. He taught English for several years at Antwerp then went to ALCOA in Massena, where he retired as an electrician. In 1977, William married Kathleen Aiken. They companioned each other through 21 years together, raising their children. The marriage ended in 1998, but the friendship remained.
He enjoyed the outdoors, especially his sandpit, but would relax reading classic novels, jigsaw puzzles and solitaire. He loved spending time with his children, and at one time they devoted time together in snow sculpturing.
William is survived by four children, Christopher and Tionda Woodward of Cheektowaga, Michael and Dana Woodward of Dickinson Center, Elizabeth and Jason Belile of Massena and Matthew Woodward of Dickinson Center, three grandchildren, Hailey Woodward, Aleigha Belile and Jayce Belile, two brothers, Verness and Nancy Woodward of Eatonville, WA and David and Sharon Woodward of Manchester, CT, several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, one sister, Nancy Woodward, predeceased him.
Visitation will be held Saturday from 4 to 6 pm at the Hammill Funeral Home in St. Regis Falls, with his funeral service at 6 pm.
