St. Regis Falls- Mr. Alvin L. Knepp, 86, passed away on May 2, 2018 at the Canton Potsdam Hospital surrounded by the comfort, love and support of his wife and family. Arrangements are entrusted to Hammill Funeral Home in St. Regis Falls.
Al was born in Ogdensburg on March 2, 1932 to the late Henry T. and Ethel C. (Gebo) Knepp, graduating from Ogdensburg Free Academy. He proudly served his country in the US Army from 1951-1960 and continued his duty in the Reserves, retiring after 27 ½ years of service.
He married Linda J. LaBounty whom he lovingly called ‘Joansie’ on October 19, 1974 at Trinity United Methodist Church in St. Regis Falls. Sharing a blessed union of 43 years, they were the love of each other’s lives.
For 25 years Al worked at General Motors in Massena, retiring in 1987. After which and together with his wife, Linda; they owned and operated the Eskimo Inn in SRF from 1986-1995. Al also worked as the night watchman at Tru- Stich in Malone for 12 years.
He was a member of the St. Regis Falls American Legion Post# 322, the Fire Department and Sportsman’s Club; where played the role of Santa Claus during the holidays for 15 years. Al was also a member of the NNY Firemen’s Association and GM Local #465
He sat as a judge for the Firematics and enjoyed snowmobiling, bowling, roller skating, and dancing.
Al is survived by his wife, Linda; daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Larry Palmer of St. Regis Falls, daughter, Evelyn Sexton of Owls Head, daughter and son-in-law Barbara and Bill Sabourin of Mt. Lebanon, PA.; 5 grandchildren: Robert, Larry, Emily, Kaitlin, and Gabriel; 9 great grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and special friend Charlie, his Pug.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his loving daughter, Stephanie Ann Knepp, his brothers Robert and Herb Knepp, and a son-in-law Bill Sexton.
In keeping with Al’s wishes there will be no calling hours.
A Graveside service with Military Honors will be held on Tuesday May 8th at Forest Cemetery in St. Regis Falls at 11:00 AM.
For those wishing to express an act of kindness, memorial contributions in Alvin’s honor may be made to St. Regis Falls Fire and Rescue or St. Regis Falls American Legion.
