North Lawrence- Mrs. Lois I. Patten, 86, passed away peacefully on August 23, 2018 at the Canton-Potsdam Hospital surrounded by her family.
Arrangements are entrusted to the Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop.
Lois was born in Hopkinton on May 28, 2018 to the late John and Iva (Weller) Burgess. She was raised and educated locally and earned an Associates Degree from North Country Community College.
She began work as a licensed practical nurse at Alice Hyde Medical Center in Malone; transferring to Canton-Potsdam Hospital and retiring in 1988.
On July 14, 1950 she was married to David Patten at the First Congregational Church in Hopkinton. They shared a blessed union with faith, love, and dedication creating a foundation for their family; which in turn was Lois’s greatest joy in life.
Lois was thoroughly enjoyed the outdoors; especially kayaking, hiking, boating, and camping. After their retirement, David and Lois enjoyed spending their time traveling by camper all over the U.S. In her leisure time, she enjoyed knitting; but most of all spending time with her family.
She is survived by her husband of 68 years, David; daughter and son-in-law: Cheryl ‘Cheri’ and Mark Maillie of Ontario, NY., 2 sons and daughters-in-law: Daniel and Vickie Patten of North Lawrence, and Joseph and Jocelyne Patten of Pittsburgh, PA.; grandchildren: Jennifer Kilcoyne, Joshua Kilcoyne, Jessica Browne, Brett Patten, Kevin Patten, Justin Patten, Brad Patten, Heather Sochia, and Ethan Patten; and great-grandchildren: Maya, Kai, John, Jezabelle, Reed, Lily, Adeline, Ziegen, and Logen.
Survivors also include, her sister and brother-in-law, Bonnie and Maurice Fenner of Massena and sister Janet Rothberg of Poughkeepsie; nieces, nephews, cousins and her beloved K-9 companion, Chloe.
Lois was predeceased by her children, Laura Kilcoyne and Timothy Patten, and her siblings Donna Field and Royal Burgess.
Lois’s Funeral Service will be held on Monday August 27, 2018 at 2:00 PM at the First Congregational Church of Hopkinton. Her family will receive visitors from 1:00 PM until the time of the service at 2:00 PM. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery in Lawrenceville.
