Rose Baldwin

January 1, 1943 — January 27, 2019

Mrs. Rose M Baldwin, 75, of Hopkinton, passed away peacefully at home, Sunday, January 27, 2019 after a brave battle with ALS.

Rose was born July 31, 1943 in Colton, the daughter of Hubert and Ruth (Foster) Tuper. She graduated Parishville Hopkinton Central School in 1961.

On June 2, 1963, she married Ronald D. Baldwin. They were devoted to each other for over 55 years.   Rose took immense pride in their home in Hopkinton where they lived for 40 years until they moved to their river “camp” in Parishville, returning to a new home built for Rose in Hopkinton in 2017.

Rose first worked at Marine Midland Bank. In 1977, she earned her cosmetology license and opened a beauty shop from her home.  In 1990, she earned her NYS realtor license and worked at Plumley Real Estate until her retirement in 2016. Throughout this time, she was also her husband’s partner in business, first for a few years at Ron’s Market in Fort Jackson, and then for 30 years in Ron’s Agri-Drainage. She was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church. Rose enjoyed golf and was once Meadowbrook Course champ. She was a member of the Red Hat Society and loved meeting with her ladies. She maintained an active lifestyle, kayaking, walking, and taking every opportunity to travel, particularly happy at any beach destination.  She was most devoted to her family and took special joy in her grandchildren who would tell you that they grew up “at camp with Grandma and Grandpa.”

Rose is survived by her husband, Ronald; her daughter, Tina B. (John) Taillon of Canton; her son, Mark A. (Kelly) of Fort Jackson; four grandchildren, Brittanie (Richard) Mendez, Brianna (Joshua) Atkins, Zachary (Alanni) Baldwin, Blake Baldwin; four great-grandchildren, Myah Baldwin, Ashton Baldwin, Rose Mendez, and Kallie Atkins; brother Donald (Noreen) Tuper; sisters Dorothy Gardner, and Joann (Gilman) Cyr; sisters-in-law, Judy (Reggie) Barrett and Linda Tuper; and many nieces and nephews.

Rose was predeceased by her parents; four brothers, Arthur (Loretta), Raymond, James, and Richard; and a sister, Gladys (Willis) Coleman.

Friends may call at the Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop, Wednesday from 4 to 7 pm.  Rose’s Funeral Service will be held at the funeral home Thursday at 10 am with Fr. Alfred Fish officiating.  Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery in Parishville.

On Rose’s behalf, her family would like to thank the medical offices of Dr. Peter Creigh at U of R, Dr. Malek, Dr. Kedar, Dr. Oakley, and especially Dr. Williams at Community Health for gently helping them accept her diagnosis and compassionately guiding them through her illness; the ALS Association, Sandy’s Steps and the Massena ALS Support Group for their kindness and generosity; Hospice and Palliative Care of St. Lawrence Valley for their invaluable support; the innumerable family members and friends who have supported them these past few years. Special thanks to Jean Murray for her care and support.

Donations may be made in Rose’s memory to Sandy’s Steps to Edge Out ALS, 267 State HWY 37C, Massena, NY 13662 or to Hospice and Palliative Care of St. Lawrence Valley.
