North Bangor- Mrs. Freida F. LaGray, 86, peacefully passed away on March 6, 2019 at the University of Vermont Health Network, Alice Hyde Medical Center in Malone after a brief illness. Arrangements are entrusted to Hammill Funeral Home in St. Regis Falls.
In keeping with Freida’s wishes there will be no services at this time. A graveside service will be held at Sand Hill Cemetery in Dickinson in the spring.
Freida was born in Dickinson on January 16, 1933 to the late Henry and Sarah (LaPlant) Genaway. She was raised and educated locally, and graduated from St. Regis Falls High School. Freida married Melvin LaGray on December 24, 1953. He passed away on September 30, 1977.
For many years Melvin and Freida owned and operated LaGray’s Garage in Dickinson Center. She later worked for the Manson Nursing Home in Malone as a nurse’s aide until she retired.
Freida is survived by one sister-in-law, Odena Genaway of St. Regis Falls; three nephews: Donald Genaway Jr., Barry Farmer, both of St. Regis Falls, and Billy Genaway of Friendsville, TN.; and many great nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents and husband Freida was predeceased by three sisters: Mildred Richards, Marjorie Genaway and Eva Farmer, and one brother Donald Genaway Sr.
Memorial contributions can be made in her honor to the North Bangor Rescue Squad.
