Sharon A. Gauthier

May 7, 1944 — September 19, 2019

Winthrop – Sharon A. Gauthier, 75, passed away peacefully Thursday morning, September 19, 2019, at Canton Potsdam Hospital with her loving family at her side.  Arrangements are entrusted to the Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop, where visitation will be held Wednesday from 11 am to 1 pm.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2 pm at St. Patrick Church in Brasher Falls with a Celebration of Life luncheon to follow at the American Legion Post #514 in Winthrop.

Born in Massena on May 7, 1944, Sharon is the daughter of the late Joseph T. and Gertrude (Narrow) Derouchie.  She was a graduate of Massena High School.  On May 29, 1965, she married Joseph Gauthier at Sacred Heart Church, sharing 54 years in a loving, inseparable union. She was a sensitive, caring and kind wife and mother.

At one time, Sharon held a position at Woolworth’s in Massena, at BOCES in Potsdam and operated a ceramic shop out of her home.  She is owner of Golden Memorials, where she has provided families comfort in honoring their loved ones.  Sharon was a 4-H Leader, member of the Golden Girls Club and the KnitWits Club, and a communicant of St. Patrick Church in Brasher Falls.  She had a special fortitude of character and her great faith spoke volumes.  She had a sweet demeanor and a soft heart, filled with love for her family and friends.

Sharon is survived by her husband, Joe; her children, Jodi and Jeff White of Brasher Falls, Lyette and Kyle Taillon of Winthrop and Chad and Michelle Gauthier of Winthrop; one adopted child, James Hartford, Sr. of Massena; a son-in-law, Steve Ashley; her grandchildren; Ryan White, Stephanie White, Chelsea and Jordan Foote, Courtney Ashley, Taylor Gauthier, Caitlin Ashley, Bailee Gauthier and Jonas Crasa; one great grandson, Jax Ashley; two brothers; Leon Richards and Ralph Richards, both of Bombay; many nieces, nephews and good friends.  She was predeceased by her daughter, Darcie Ashley in 2008; three brothers, Gary “Joey” Derouchie, Lloyd Richards and Jerry Richards and two sisters, Goldie Richards and Mary Richards.
