Winthrop- Mr. Joseph F. “Jody” Dissottle, 72, peacefully passed away on February 7, 2020 at his home surrounded and comforted by his wife, Linda, and family.
Arrangements are entrusted to Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop, where visitation will be held Monday from 2 – 4 and 6 – 8 PM. Jody’s Funeral Service and Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday February 11th at 11:00 AM at St. Lawrence Church in North Lawrence. Burial in the parish cemetery will take place in the spring.
Jody was born in Hopkinton on July 26, 1947 to the late Louis E. and Marjorie H. (Dashno) Dissottle. He graduated from St. Lawrence Central High School in 1966. On February 8, 1969 he married Linda Judware at St. Lawrence Church in North Lawrence. They shared 51 years together, true companions in life who supported one another in times of happiness and sorrow complete with faith, dedication and love.
For most of his life Jody owned and operated the Dissottle Farm. He also spent time working on planes at Pratt & Whitney in Connecticut, worked for the Highway Department for the Town of Lawrence and drove school bus for St. Lawrence Central.
Those who knew and loved Jody will remember him as a jack of all trades with a good heart, strong spirit, and friendly smile. One who was always up for conversation and never met a stranger who loved and cherished his family.
He was a lifetime member of the Lawrenceville Volunteer Fire Department and enjoyed bowling.
Jody is survived by his wife, Linda; 6 children: Darren and Rachel Dissottle of Billerica, MA., Darrell Dissottle and his companion Lynn Montour of Winthrop, Dawn and Paul Brown of Rogersville, AL., Dwayne and Tracy Dissottle of Winthrop, David and Deana Dissottle of Winthrop, and Deborah and Eric Brothers of Winthrop; 21 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers: Eugene and Gary Dissottle, a sister Deborah Sweeney; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Always close to his heart was the memory of those who predeceased him: a brother Robert Smith, and his granddaughter, Kaitlyn Dissottle-Camidge.
