Munson R. Southworth

Winthrop - Munson R. Southworth, 71, of the White Road, passed away, Monday January 17, 2011 at Massena Memorial Hospital. Munson was born in Massena on September 25, 1939, the son of the late Burnap M. and Kathyrn C. (Stark) Southworth. He was educated through the Newcomb Central School. Munson enlisted in the United States Air Force December of 1959. During his enlistment married Nancie A. Miller, April 12, 1961 at the Congress Height Baptist Church, Washington, DC, with the Rev. Cartwright presiding. Mr. Southworth was honorably discharged from the Air Force in April, 1969. There will be no public calling; arrangements are entrusted with the Hammill Funeral Home, Winthrop. For nine years Mr. Southworth worked for the Nevada Telephone Company as a technician. He later worked as a Nuclear Test Technician for the Nevada Test Site, in southern Nevada. With his wife Nancie, they relocated back to the North Country thirteen years ago. Surviving Munson is his wife Nancie, a son Robert and his wife Etti of Las Vegas, two brothers and sister-in-laws, Gary F. and his wife Theresa Southworth of West Chazy, and Neil and his wife Sue Southworth of Massena , and his sister Gloria and brother-in-law Jim Compeau of Brasher Falls and a son-in-law Michael Gantman of Las Vega, NV. Also surviving Mr. Southworth are four grandchildren, Michael Southworth, Brooke Gantman, Jeremy Kirschner, Thomas Cunningham; three great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews He is predeceased by two daughters, Donna Marie Southworth, Angela Lee Southworth Gantman, along with one grandson Joshua Gantman. Munson loved spending his spare time reading and working with wood. A memorial service honoring Munson's life will be held at a later date at the Victory Baptist Church in Winthrop. Expressions of one's sympathy may be made in honor of Munson to Hospice and Palliative Care of St. Lawrence Valley, 6805 US Hwy 11, Potsdam, NY 13676.
